Golden Triangle 2011

We could not have asked for a better experience: Gorgeous sunshine, the incredible scenery of the Rockies, lots of good food and First snack Day 1of course … the company of our friends! We just completed the Golden Triangle, a 3-day cycling trip through the Rockies, organized by the Elbow Valley Cycling Club. And organized they were! Our bags were transported to the next hotel each day, and every day we had 2 or 3 rest stops with plenty of food, yummy treats such as danishes or butter tarts, great lunches, cheerful Lundh Day 1volunteers. We cycled about 110km each day, with some serious hills (the last day has an elevation gain of 1600+ meters!). Apparently we had the best weather in 15 years (this event has been running for 28 years) with lots of sun and never a drop of rain!

On the first day, we left Castle Mountain Junction near Lake Louise to cycle to Radium Hot Springs. A most enjoyable ride: A steep uphill (with the first snack stop on top of the hill!), then a long gentle/flat section that felt effortless, then a last climb before the crazy descent into Radium. On the second day, the route is undulating between Radium and Golden, without any major climbs. The third day makes up for that with some serious hills on the Trans Canada Highway between Golden and Lake Louise. Check out the GPS download here. More food

An incredible experience, 330km of fun. The legs are recovering, the memories will stay. Check out the pictures!
